Event: Parenting Talk: Build Great Relationships with Your Child
Date: 4 March 2023

A one-hour parenting workshop was held on 4 March 2023, Saturday morning to encourage parents to build great relationships with their children by connecting with their emotions. Parents were taught the importance of emotions and the different ways they can connect with their children’s feelings. Did you know, knowing how to cope with emotions can help a child stimulate higher-level thinking which in turn might help them improve their academics? Parents learnt the 3 As of connecting with their children – Approach, Attitude and Action.

Parents learnt to approach their children with a warm, kind and empathic attitude and show them how to express and cope with their emotions through action. Parents were also reminded to engage in self-care activities as they need the energy and capacity to continue to be appropriate role models for their children. While the parents were attending the workshop, their children and siblings were treated to a fun time through carnival station games, activities and treats! Through playing station games such as ball tossing and jenga building, the children also had a great time bonding with their siblings and schoolmates.

Parents were also given a free toolkit, containing an emotion chart and various mediums to engage their children to express and cope with emotions. The workshop ended with a snack/drink and a fun parent-child bonding activity where everyone left recharged and reconnected to spend the rest of their weekend together!
