APSN Continues To Champion Its Cause In The Special Needs Community With The Appointment Of A New President

APSN continues to champion its cause in the special needs community with the appointment of a New President

Following the 41st Annual General Meeting held on 30 September 2017, APSN elected Mr Tan Cheen Chong as the new President to lead the Board in carrying out the fiduciary duties and good governance of APSN as an Institute of Public Character. He will continue the new strategic directions set by the Board in 2016 in leading and advocating for inclusion, especially for the special needs community, as well as engaging and supporting the close to 5,000 adults with special needs who had benefited from APSN schools and centre in the last 41 years. The Association will also be exploring new potential job pathways for the special needs community and enhancing the special education curriculum and take on research work to better serve persons with special needs.

Mr Tan takes over the reins from Mr Victor Tay who had served as the Association’s President for the past year. Mr Tay has been serving in APSN since 2009. The Board thanks Mr Tay for his 8 years of contributions and wishes him all the best in his future endeavour.

Taking the helm, Mr Tan is a technoprenuer with more than 20 years of experience in the IT industry and has worked in tech companies such as Microsoft, IBM, Novell and WordPerfect. He is currently the founder of a technology marketing company and is also a certified Mindfulness teacher, actively teaching mindfulness to both children and adults. He was previously the Chairperson for both the Infocomm Committee and the Community and Industry Partnerships Committee.

Mr Tan will be assisted by newly-appointed Vice Presidents Ms Seet Chor Hoon and Mrs Ruby Cheah. We also have on board Mr Royce Seah as the newly-appointed Honorary Treasurer and Mr Gwee Sze Chuan as the Honorary Secretary.
